Samuel Knight — Founder, owner-operated
Our story
Built on doing the job properly, not just quickly
Knights Mowing started with a simple idea: too many local homeowners had put up with rushed visits, missed weeks and lawns that were cut but never really finished. Samuel Knight wanted to do better, and he's kept the business small and owner-operated on purpose so that standard doesn't slip.
A rule Samuel picked up mowing lawns as a young man still holds today: you don't leave until the edges are done. What's changed since then is the equipment and the systems behind it, built to keep that standard steady whether it's the first visit of spring or a wet Thursday in July.
Most new work comes from referrals and repeat bookings. Clients stay because the result is the same every time and the relationship is easy — Samuel answers the phone, quotes hold, and problems get raised before you spot them yourself.
Family homes, rental properties, strata frontages, small commercial sites and memorial gardens — different jobs, same aim: outdoor spaces the owner is glad to come home to, kept that way without having to manage it themselves.
“Anyone can cut grass. Turning up on time, every fortnight, and cutting it the same way each time — that's the hard part.”
Featured recent project
A recent courtyard reset
Before and after of a recent Knights Mowing clean-up for a local client — weeds removed, brick edging reset and the site left ready for planting.

Garden clean up
Courtyard garden bed reset
Two narrow courtyard beds had been overrun by weeds and creeping growth, with clippings and debris scattered across the paving.
The beds were cleared by hand so the roots came out with the weeds rather than snapping off at the surface. The brick edging was uncovered and reset, the soil turned over and levelled, and the paving swept down before we left. The bed is now a clean planting base, not something the owner has to fight every few weeks.
- Weeds and creeping growth removed by the root, not just cut back
- Brick edging uncovered and the bed lines squared up
- Soil turned over and levelled ready for planting or mulch
- Paving swept clean and all green waste taken away
Photographed on site before and after the work was completed.

Small, deliberate decisions, one property at a time
Growth was never the goal — doing the work properly was. Most decisions along the way have simply been about doing less work, better.
- The start
A mower, a trailer, and a standard
Samuel started Knights Mowing on a simple idea: a garden should be finished properly, not just cut. That standard has carried through everything since.
- Staying hands-on
Owner-operated by design
Rather than growing into a call-centre operation, Samuel has kept Knights Mowing owner-operated, so the person who quotes the job is the person who stands behind it.
- The details
The systems behind the finish
Set schedules, written safety procedures and clear communication. None of it makes for exciting reading, but it's why visits happen when we say they will.
- Today
Still quoted honestly, still finished by hand
Family homes, rental properties, strata common areas, small commercial sites and memorial grounds across Pakenham and Cardinia — each treated with the same care and attention to detail.
Meet Samuel Knight
Still on the tools, most weeks of the year
Samuel genuinely likes this work — the smell of a first cut in September, the moment a hedge finally holds a straight line, a site left cleaner than it was found. That interest is why the detail gets done.
He does the work himself, week in and week out. That keeps him honest about how long jobs actually take, which equipment holds up, and whether the standard he promises is the one being delivered. New clients are quoted by him personally, so there's no gap between who you speak to and who does the job.
Communication is where he's least willing to compromise. Quotes come back promptly, usually within a business day, and questions get answered by someone who's actually seen your property. If something needs flagging — a dying shrub, a drainage issue, a fence panel on its way out — you'll hear about it with a recommendation, not a quote attached.
Ask his long-term clients why they stay and the answers line up: he does what he says, he's easy to deal with, and the garden looks after itself now.
What that means for you
- Quoted by the person accountable for the work — Samuel, not a call centre
- One person, one written standard, every visit
- Replies to quotes and questions usually within a business day
- Issues on your property raised early, with honest advice
- Photos on request after any visit you're not home for
What the crest stands for
The values we actually run the business on
Not brand language — these are the filters we use when deciding how a job gets done and how we deal with you.
Reliability
You get a day and a slot in the round, and we stick to it. If weather or a breakdown gets in the way, you hear from us before you've had a chance to wonder.
Honesty
Fixed prices quoted up front, no add-ons invented on the day, and a straight answer if a job isn't worth doing or isn't ours to do.
Respect for the property
Gates closed, bins put back, no wheel marks on wet turf and nothing leaned against the render. We work around your home, not through it.
Quality over shortcuts
Sharp blades, correct cut heights and hand detailing where a machine can't reach. Shortcuts always show up two weeks later.
Attention to detail
Edges, corners, around the letterbox and under the trampoline — the finish gets judged on the parts that are easiest to skip.
Professional presentation
Tidy equipment and a clean site before we leave, every visit, whether you're home or not.
Why clients stay
Why homeowners and managers keep choosing us
Choosing between local providers is mostly a question of who you'll still be happy with in a year. These are the reasons our clients give.
The result doesn't drift
Cut heights, edge lines and hedge dimensions get noted against your property, so the tenth visit looks like the first.
Arrival times you can plan around
Visits are scheduled around your area, so you'll know roughly when Samuel will be there — and get a message if that changes.
Scheduling that flexes
Weekly through to seasonal, extra visits over summer's growth spurt, a top-up before an inspection, auction or family event — no lock-in contracts, no renegotiating.
Properly documented, start to finish
Every visit is recorded with notes and photos, so the standard you approve first time is the standard you get next time.
Residential and commercial experience
A courtyard in Pakenham and a strata frontage in Berwick need different plans, and we take the time to quote each one properly.
Relationships that last
Most of our work is long-term maintenance, and much of our new work comes from clients recommending us to neighbours — that's the measure we care about.
Who we work with
One standard, whoever holds the keys
From family homes to managed and commercial property, every property gets the same care and the same finish.
Homeowners
Families who'd rather spend the weekend in the garden than on it, plus owners preparing to sell.
Landlords & agencies
Rental portfolios kept presentable between inspections, with photo records and invoicing per property.
Property managers
One point of contact, dependable scheduling and clean documentation for lease starts, exits and routine inspections.
Commercial, strata & body corporates
Frontages, common areas, small commercial sites and memorial grounds, all on a fixed contract schedule.

Our commitment
Make the garden the easiest thing you own
Every property is someone's home or someone's asset — it's always one of the two. That means care with the details: machinery kept off wet turf, hand work near garden beds and memorials, gates and bins left exactly as we found them.
Every visit is finished to the same standard, whether you're standing in the driveway or overseas. If a job needs an extra fifteen minutes to be right, it gets the fifteen minutes. If we can't complete a visit, you're told why and you're not charged for it.
The point of hiring us is that maintenance stops being something you have to manage. Set the schedule once, and the mowing, edging, hedging and clean-up simply happen. That's the commitment, and it's why clients stick with us.
